# Asset Classification

Indicator **RC3** of the Asset and Development Asset Assessments requires participants to identify the sector(s) of the facility or facilities that comprise the asset/development asset. 

This page aims to help participants understand the sectors available for selection and how an entity's asset composition determines its overall portfolio classification.

Every reporting entity must have a **primary** sector and location (i.e., the sector and location in which the majority of the asset's facilities exist). GRESB uses this information to assign the entity to a predefined peer group and establish benchmarks.

Participants can refer to GRESB's thresholds and sector type definitions below to understand an entity's primary classification.

#### **Primary Sector Thresholds**

An asset’s Primary Sector is based on the most specific category that accounts for at least 75% of its Gross Asset Value (GAV), based on the GAV of facilities reported to indicator RC3 (Sector & Geography).&#x20;

Assets are assigned a primary sector at the subclass, class, or superclass level. If fewer than 75% of facilities fall into a single superclass, the asset's sector is "Diversified."

#### **Primary Location Thresholds**

An asset’s Primary Location is based on the most specific category that accounts for at least 59% of its Gross Asset Value (GAV), based on the GAV of facilities reported to indicator RC3 (Sector & Geography).&#x20;

Assets are assigned a primary sector at the subclass, class, or superclass level. If fewer than 59% of facilities fall into a single superclass, the asset's sector is "Globally Diversified."
