How to use your Fundamentals Report
Introduction
What is the Fundamentals Report?
The Fundamentals Report provides a clear summary of an entity’s Fundamentals result, including whether the entity has achieved the required threshold (80% of total points available), where its foundational practices are strongest, and where there are opportunities to improve.
Fundamentals is designed to validate and communicate the governance and risk management practices that support credible sustainability performance.
The report provides a controlled, shareable outcome that can support investor communication, internal alignment, and capital raising discussions without exposing the entity to a GRESB Score, Star Rating, or full comparative benchmark.
How do I use the Fundamentals Report?
Participants can use the Fundamentals Report to:
Communicate a clear Achieved/Not yet achieved result to investors and stakeholders
Demonstrate foundational sustainability governance and risk management practices
Identify strengths and opportunities across key management topics
Review validation outcomes and understand where evidence can be improved
Support internal alignment on sustainability oversight, accountability, and risk processes
Prepare for future participation in the GRESB Real Estate Assessment
How do I access the Fundamentals Report?
By default, the Fundamentals Report will only be accessible to the participant. No investors will have access unless the participant actively enables sharing in the portal settings.
Participants can access the report in the GRESB Portal after validation is complete, which happens within four weeks of assessment submission.
The report can also be exported to PDF for internal use or external sharing.
The display examples provided in this document are for educational purposes only and have been simplified in some cases. They are intended to illustrate concepts and should not be considered definitive or comprehensive. Actual results may vary based on individual circumstances and factors.

Fundamentals provides a clear Pass/Fail outcome, displayed in the report as Achieved/Not yet achieved.
An Achieved result means the entity has earned at least 80% of the total points available, or at least 14.6 of 18.25 points available.
The report shows the month and year in which the result was generated.
The result is valid for one year from the month of issue.
For example, if an entity receives its Fundamentals result in June 2026, it is valid through June 2027.
A Not yet achieved result means the entity has not earned at least 80% of the total points available, or fewer than 14.6 of 18.25 points available.
The report shows how far the entity is from the threshold and provides indicator-level feedback to help identify where improvements may be needed.
Participants can use the report to review validation outcomes, address gaps, update responses or evidence where appropriate, and resubmit when ready.
Strengths & Opportunities
The Strengths and Opportunities chart shows how the entity performs across the Fundamentals aspects. It highlights areas where the entity demonstrates stronger foundational practices and areas where further improvement may be useful.
This section aims to help participants understand the pattern of their result and identify practical focus areas across the foundational governance and risk management topics covered by Fundamentals.
Entity & Benchmark Group Characteristics
The report includes information about the entity and its benchmark group to provide context for understanding how the entity’s responses compare with similar participants.
The Fundamentals benchmark group consists of GRESB Real Estate Assessment entities that are within their first three years of participation. GRESB determines a Fundamentals benchmark group using the following characteristics:
Primary location
Legal status
Investment style
Indicator Summary
The Indicator Summary provides a structured view of the entity’s performance across the Fundamentals indicators and aspects.
This section shows:
Whether the indicator was achieved or identified as an opportunity
Points awarded and maximum available points per aspect and indicator
The weight each aspect (e.g., Commitments) holds within the maximum points available
The pillar-level breakdown at the bottom of this section reveals the distribution of points achieved across environmental, social, and governance topics.
Participants can use this section to understand which indicators supported the result and which indicators may require further attention.
Validation
The Validation section provides information on the review of submitted evidence.
This section includes:
The number of accepted items
The number of items not accepted
The number of evidence files reviewed
Validation decisions by indicator
Reasons for items not being accepted
Evidence files associated with validation decisions
A record of submitted evidence and related outcomes
Participants should use this section to understand how validation affected their result. If an item was not accepted, the validation reason can help identify what needs to be clarified, corrected, or supported with stronger evidence in a future submission.
Indicator Breakdown
The Indicator Breakdown provides more detailed information on the entity’s selected responses and how those responses compare with the benchmark group.
For each indicator, this section shows:
The entity's specific selections
The percentage of the entity's benchmark group that has selected each option
The entity's evidence uploaded to that indicator and its validation status (only visible if the entity chose to disclose it)
This section helps participants understand the specific practices reflected in their responses and identify where their approach differs from the benchmark group.
